Herr Döktors Emporium!

http://herrdoktorsemporium.bigcartel.com/

Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, the call of commerce has finally been answered, and a range of miniature Rayguns in shiny English pewter are now available from my on-line emporium!

Merely click on the above banner and be transported to such delights as the METROPOLIS raygun:

As used in Middle-Europe during THAT unpleasantness, or the FLASHHEART:

 Named after a fallen Hero.

Just two of the rather lovely rayguns available, please have a look, click here to see the whole range, and a few other delights!

The "Gentleman's Comfort"

A variation on Lady Raygun's "Lady Raygun", may I present the "Gentleman's Comfort"- a copper-coloured raygun with style and panache:

This pistol comes in an antique wooden box, with a screw on flash suppressor, and two tools.

And here it is, all together, in it's glory:

As usual, there is a label to explain certain points of care for this device:

A slight difference form the Lady Raygun: this version has an extra dial, this one showing the energy reserve, the one on the side showing Power in Roentgen:

Gave a whole thing a verdigris-like patina, most satisfactory!

And here it is with it's 'sister:

Rocket Man

It's strange, isn't, the way that certain things crop up at the same time, take, for instance, the day I started making my Rocket Back Pack, at exactly the same time, a number of other makers around the world were doing EXACTLY THE SAME THING...

So, without further ado, here is my 'take' on the rocket pack and helmet:
The front of the pack, with leather straps and helmet.
 The Rocket Pack itself.

The Pack in close up.

The 'Business End' of the rocket engines.

Co0ntrols on the left-hand gauntlet.

Temperature display and altitude gauge.

Fuel regulators.

Winged helmet.

This is a mostly metal construction, as befits a device that would be subject to extremes of temperature, and the inevitable concussion from failed launches.

The Art Of Steampunk

As you may know, I exhibited at Oxford's Museum of the History Of Science last year, an exhibition that was curated by Art Donovan, further to this, the contributors to this show are to be featured in a book edited by Mr. Donovan.

Although this book isn't available until August, I thought it worth mentioning if only to publicly thank Mr. Donovan for all his hard work.

Available for purchase here, and here.

Lady Raygun's 'Lady Raygun'

A special commission from the fabled father of Far Fetched Fiction, Commodore Robert Rankin, FVSS, for his good lady wife, Lady Raygun:

Here she is with the flash arrestor (or the metal bit on the front) screwed into place, and powered up- the purple ball glows blue, and the insets on the body flicker yellow, the trigger is spring loaded, but doesn't do anything- if there's one thing I've learnt about making rayguns, it's that if there is a trigger, people will pull it...

A close up of the label, with bad jokes.

It's made from odds and ends culled from charity shops, and placed within a slightly foxed (or more likely badgered) burr walnut veneer box- which required new hinges, which I had to modify into the sort that hold the lid open at 90° to the base, which was an interesting experience.

The Lady Raygun was presented to Lady Raygun during a very fine Indian meal at the Asylum Steampunk Convivial in Lincoln, and I'm very pleased to say the lady in question was overjoyed with her gift.

MADNESS!

It's all been a bit busy in the Castle D'arrogance recently, trying to finish a couple of my own projects and a small commission: a modified gauntlet for a Zeppelin crew member:

Photobucket

It has been tinted with a brass finish, and has an altitude gauge, with a bright, variably flashing warning lamp.

My own projects are a slug-throwing steam powered pistol, here in it's constituant parts:

And all together in it's primer coat:

I'll give it it's own write up when it's completely finished.

And my my second project is a Steampunk Sonic Screwdriver, variously called a 'Sonic Steamdriver', 'Steamdriver', or 'Ætheric Screwdriver':

It, of course, has the requisite lights and sound (liberated from a 'toy' Sonic), and switches from red to blue:

'Overload' warning lamp on the back:

And with it's 'descendants':

(you can 'click' on the above photos to see them in a larger size, I'm getting the hang of this now...)

The "THUNDERBUSS"

Ladies and Gentle men, presenting my latest invention, the THUNDERBUSS, a Gentleman's Sonic Hunting Rifle:

Note the Intensity and Range dial:
The range settings do, indeed, go from 'QUIET' to 'PARDON?'

The twin accumulator valves, which glow with power:

The business end:

A detailed account of this device's construction may be viewed here:

Steampunk Space Helmet

While we're all waiting for the next big thing, here's some photographs of a Steampunk Space Helmet:

And finally, on a brief visit to Mars:
